PageBuilder Editor: Dealing with Block Duplicates
Note
This document is not about duplicate content.
In the following documentation, the term Block refers to block, chain, and chained block (block which is a part of a chain), and page refers to page and template.
Have you experienced a scenario where a block starts to behave exactly like another one? For instance, if you change the text associated with one, text for another block gets updated? Or if you delete one block, the other block gets deleted with it?
Though very rare, this might happen when a block gets the same fingerprint as one of the existing blocks on the page (e.g cloning or resolving complex merge conflicts). As a user, you need not worry about fingerprint but if you are curious, it is what uniquely identifies every block on the page.

What to expect when there are duplicate blocks on your page?
In case there are duplicate blocks on your page that you are curating, whether you notice them or not, PageBuilder Editor will.
When you take any of these actions:
Share Edits
Publish options: Share & Publish, Edit Merged Draft
A modal will appear indicating that you have duplicates on the page and will prompt you to take appropriate actions.
PageBuilder Editor will highlight duplicates, if any, in a very light orange color in the Blocks card in Curate workspace so that you can visually track them and will also regenerate fingerprints for the duplicates in the background (for instance, the blocks will not be considered duplicates anymore.).
When you click Okay on the modal, you can review all the highlighted blocks and make the determination to remove or keep any or all of the them.
To remove duplicates, manually review and remove the highlighted blocks you do not want to retain.
To keep all or any duplicate blocks, simply click on Share Edits, Share & Publish or Edit Merged Draft publish options while the duplicates are still highlighted on the page.
When you take any of these actions, PageBuilder Editor will keep any remaining duplicates, and remove the highlighted blocks experience.
Instead of clicking on Share Edits, if you directly switch to Publish workspace and take Share & Publish and Edit Merged Draft actions, you will be taken back to Curate workspace so that you can view the highlighted blocks in the Blocks card as described above.
Note
If you already clicked Share Edits and saw the modal and reviewed the highlighted duplicates (as in, resolved duplicates by either removing or retaining), the system does not send you back to the Curate workspace.
When you use Publish My Draft option in Publish workspace, My Draft will be published and duplicates, if any, will be resolved when you take any above mentioned actions to merge My Draft and Shared Draft.
When you choose Use My Draft option in Publish workspace, highlighted experience indicating duplicates, if any, will be removed.
You will continue to see the blocks in the highlighted color until you Share Edits or take Publish actions - Share & Publish and Use My Draft.
We highly recommend that you coordinate with other collaborators of the page and notify them of your actions (such as removing the second duplicate header on the page) and immediately share your edits so that they can use the latest shared draft.
