How to upload author images?

When migrating authors programmatically, what is the best way to add the author photo to Arc XP using the API? 

The Author Service API can not upload and save an image binary into Arc XP. The only way to upload an image into an Author profile is to use the Author Service UI. Manually browse for the image and click the Save button.
