Photo Center Image Deletion Policy

Arc XP offers two types of image deletes in Photo Center: a standard delete and a permanent delete.

Review the following table to understand each delete type and what occurs with your images.

Image delete type

Description

Image availability

Standard delete

You delete the image from Photo Center, either in the tool or through the API.

• Not available in Photo Center

• Available from the database for 30 days (requires an Arc XP Customer Support request to restore*)

• After 30 days, not available from the database

• Viewable from cache, if cached

Permanent delete

You request Arc XP Customer Support to purge deleted images.

You might request this action when you need to delete all traces of an image because the image is part of a legal action and must be purged completely, including from the cache.

• Not available in Photo Center

• Not available in the database

• Not recoverable

• Not viewable from cache

*You must submit your request within a reasonable timeframe so that Arc XP can assess team availability and request size within the 30-day window.

Standard delete

A standard image delete is when you delete an image in the system, either through the tool or the API, removing an image so it can’t be published. If you delete a published image, the system un-publishes the image. The standard delete action is considered a soft delete. After 30 days, Arc XP performs a hard delete.

Soft delete

When you delete an image in Photo Center, whether through the API or the tool, the photo is no longer available to you. However, Arc XP stores deleted images for 30 days, during which time you can request Arc XP Customer Support (ACS) to restore the image.

Requesting to restore an image

If you request ACS to restore a deleted image, you must provide either the photo ID or a date range for which to restore.

When Arc XP restores an image, the image does not become available again in Photo Center. Instead, ACS provides you with the image file that you can then reimport to Photo Center, as needed.

Note

You must submit your request within a reasonable timeframe so that Arc XP can assess team availability and request size within the 30-day window.

Hard delete

30 days after a soft delete, Arc XP performs a hard delete of the image files from the database, and you can no longer recover deleted images. The image remains available in your cache, but eventually drops away from the cache as normal cache clearing and refreshing occurs.

Permanent delete

If you require an immediate, complete purge of an image due to copyright issues or for any other reason, you can submit a request to ACS. This action wipes all traces of an image file from your system, including your cache, so the image is not available or recoverable.
