How to Set Up Browser Notifications for Composer

Composer browser notifications alert you when a user "knocks" on your locked story, even when you're not actively in Composer.

Enabling Notifications

In Chrome

Note

The items in your drop-down menu may be different. Even though these steps are for users with admin permissions, enabling notifications only turns them on in user's Chrome browser.

  1. Click your name in the upper-right corner to access the Composer settings drop-down menu.

  2. Click Enable Notifications.

  3. Click Allow in the confirmation window.

In Firefox

  1. Click your name in the upper-right corner to access the Composer settings drop-down menu.

  2. Click Notifications Disabled.

  3. Click Allow Notifications in the confirmation window.

Disabling Notifications

In Chrome

If you have notifications enabled, when you click on the drop-down menu under your name, you see Test Notifications as an option. To disable notifications, navigate to chrome://settings/content/notifications in your browser, or follow these instructions to access your browser notification settings:

  1. Access your Chrome settings. (If on Mac, in your top bar, click Chrome > Preferences.)

  2. Click Advanced.

  3. Under Privacy and Security, click Content Settings.

  4. Click Notifications.

  5. On the Arc option, click the three dots > Block.

In Firefox

If you have notifications enabled, when you click on the drop-down menu under your name, you see Test Notifications as an option. To disable notifications, enter about:preferences#privacy in your browser address bar or follow the following steps to access your browser notification settings:

  1. Access your Firefox settings. (If on Mac, in your top bar, click Firefox > Preferences.)

  2. Click Privacy & Security in the left pane.

  3. Under Permissions, click on the settings button for Notifications.

  4. Change the drop-down option from Allow to Block.

  5. Click Save Changes.

Re-Enabling Notifications

In Chrome

If you have notifications disabled, when you click on the drop-down menu under your name, you see Notifications Blocked. To re-enable notifications, navigate to chrome://settings/content/notifications in your browser, or follow these steps to access your browser notification settings:

  1. Access your Chrome settings. (If on Mac, in your top bar, click Chrome > Preferences.)

  2. Click Advanced.

  3. Under Privacy and Security, click Content Settings.

  4. Click Notifications.

  5. On the Arc option, click the three dots > Allow.

In Firefox

If you have notifications disabled, when you click on the drop-down menu under your name, you see Notifications Blocked. To re-enable notifications, enter about:preferences#privacy in your browser, or follow these steps to access your browser notification settings:

  1. Access your Firefox settings. (If on Mac, in your top bar, click Firefox > Preferences.)

  5. Click Save Changes.

Confirming Notifications Are Enabled

If notifications don't seem to be working for you, click your name in the upper-right corner to access the Composer settings menu. Click Test Notifications. Composer sends a test notification. If a notification does not appear, disable notifications through your browser settings and re-enable.
