Video Center - How to Configure Zoom for Streaming to Arc

This document details how to configure Zoom and Video Center to stream your Zoom webinar or meeting through Video Center and out into the world.

Instructions

This functionality is available for Live Streams using Video Center’s Server-Side Encoding feature, and only with the RTMP input type. Zoom can take advantage of Live Streams with or without DVR support.

Note

While this feature is in beta, we’ve hidden the connection settings needed to connect live events to third-party software like Zoom behind a new permission - View Live Event streaming settings. You can add this permission to your roles in the Permissions page in Arc.

1. Enable live streaming Zoom Meetings

Sign in to your Zoom account and visit the In Meeting (Advanced) settings for your profile. Under Allow live streaming meetings, tick the Custom Live Streaming Service box and add any relevant notes.

2. Configure a Live Stream

In Video Center, add or update a Live Stream configuration in Utilities > Server Configurations > Live Streams. In the Add Config form, opt for Server-side Encoding with MediaLive, selecting the Single Pipeline stream class and the RTMP input type. If known, specify the CIDR block from which Zoom will push data to MediaLive; otherwise, leave the Live Stream open to input from all IP address with a CIDR block of 0.0.0.0/0.

3. Schedule a Live Event

In Video Center, add a Live Event that’s hosted on the Live Stream configured in step two. After opening the Live Event, observe the new section containing connection settings for the Live Event’s parent Live Stream.

Clicking on the text copies it to your clipboard. You’ll need both of these connection settings in step four.

4. Configure a Zoom Meeting or Zoom Webinar

Sign in to your Zoom account and visit the Meetings section of your user profile (for example,, Https://Washpost.Zoom.Us/Meeting). The following screenshots demonstrate streaming from an already-scheduled Upcoming Meeting, but the required bit of configuration is also available in one’s Personal Meeting Room and in meeting templates.

After opening an Upcoming Meeting, scroll to the bottom of the page and open the Live Streaming tab.

Click on configure live stream settings, then paste the URL from the Live Event into the Zoom form’s Stream URL field and the name/key from the Live Event into the Zoom form’s Stream Key field. In the Live streaming page URL field, add a link page you expect your audience to be viewing your stream from.

Note

The text shown on the green background is configured in Zoom’s In Meeting (Advanced) settings under Allow live streaming meetings.

5. Start streaming from Zoom to Video Center

In a Zoom client, start the meeting that was configured in step four. Click More and then Live on Custom Live Streaming Service as shown below. Zoom will attempt to go live with the settings configured in step three; if successful, Zoom will redirect to the URL provided in the Live streaming page URL field.

6. Confirm playback

Confirm delivery of the Zoom Meeting stream in either of these two ways:

  • view the stream in the Live Preview tab of the Live Event in Video Center; or,

  • open the MediaLive Primary Output URL in Safari, VLC, ffplay, or some other compatible player
