How to verify a story is being indexed by Google

Summary

How to quickly check that stories are being ingested and indexed by Google.

Procedure

Using the site: parameter in a Google query is very useful in verifying the indexing of Arc XP content:

  • Verify that recent stories are being indexed in google news

    1. Open a Google or Google News search and search for your website, for example: "site:yoursite.com"

    2. Above the search results click on Tools > Sorted By: and set to "Sorted By: Date

    3. Examine the publication date of results to verify that recent stories are being indexed.

  • Verify that stories are being returned based on keywords in a query:

    1. Open a Google or Google News search and enter a keyword search query and append "site:yoursite.com"

    2. Examine the results and verify that the result appears as expected.

If after performing the above you continue to be concerned that Google may not be indexing your site correctly, the next step is to examine your sitemaps to ensure that these are being updated and published correctly.
