Defining your organization's websites
Use the Websites page in Site Service to add to and manage your organization's websites. Websites serve as the locations where you publish your stories, videos, and galleries.
When joining Arc XP, your organization is assigned a default website, which is the temporary location of all newly drafted stories before they are circulated to a specific website. Videos and galleries do not use the default website.
Uncirculated stories can temporarily be found in Composer when the website filter is set to the default website, and additional filters are applied, such as a headline or published date filter.
After circulation, stories can be found only when the website filter matches their circulation or when filtering by an Arc ID.
Note
In Composer, the Arc ID filter overrides all other filters, including the website filter.
As an administrator, you cannot change your organization's default website, but you can modify the default website's properties.
To change the default website before to the launch of content, contact Arc XP Customer Support.
An administrator of The Herald organization must add a website for a new publication, The Gazette. The administrator must first create a website in Site Service, setting the name and domain information of the site. This sets up the administrator for their next steps, to create the site structure and hierarchy, and finally to launch the website publicly after content populates the new website.
Procedures
Use the following steps to create a website.
Navigate to the Site Service app. The Websites page opens.
Click New Website. The Create New Website page opens.
Complete the following fields:
Website name - enter the name of your website as you would see it written, for example, The Gazette.
ID - a read-only field displays the ID of your website, which generates from the website name when you save. The ID serves as the unique identifier of your website throughout Arc XP, for example,
the-gazette
.Base path - enter the base URL for your website, for example,
http://gazette.com
.Domains - an optional additional domain for your website. If needed, the additional domains will be used to configure the CDN appropriately. To add more than one domain, click Add domain. For example,
http://gazette.com
andhttp://the-gazette.com
.
Click Save.
You can edit the details of websites you already created; however, changes to a website do not auto-populate to the existing ANS of stories, videos, or galleries. You must republish the content to update the ANS of a story, video, or gallery with updated website fields. If frequent changes occur, we recommend you include a call to the Site API in your content source to override the outdated fields.
Navigate to the Site Service app. The Websites page opens.
Filter for your website name if necessary:
Enter the website name in the search bar at the top of the Websites page. The list of sites filters to match your search term as you type it. Clear the search to reset the list.
Click Edit next to the website you want to update. The Edit website page opens.
Update the following fields:
Website name - enter the name of your website as you would see it written, for example, The Gazette.
ID - a read-only field displays the ID of your website, which generates from the website name when you save. The ID serves as the unique identifier of your website throughout Arc XP, for example,
the-gazette
.Base path - enter the base URL for your website, for example,
http://gazette.com
.Domains - an optional additional domain for your website. If needed, the additional domains will be used to configure the CDN appropriately. To add more than one domain, click Add domain. For example,
http://gazette.com
andhttp://the-gazette.com
.
Click Save.
You cannot delete a website through the UI; however, you can use the Site Service API.
Note
Do not change the default website to a new website.
We strongly advise against changing or deleting the default website after your sites are live. The default website is deeply integrated into multiple layers of your Arc XP environment, not just Site Service. Modifying the default website could result in critical system failures and severely disrupt your environment.
If your organization is new to Arc XP and has not yet published a significant amount of content, changing the default website may be less risky. However, we emphasize that this action could still cause significant issues.
If a change to your default website is absolutely necessary, contact Arc XP Customer Support.
