Navigating Composer
This article walks through the majority of the navigation bars and options so that you can make the most of Composer.
Note
Some elements are configurable per your organization’s needs and workflow, and therefore, they may not appear exactly the same for your instance of Composer.
H1 - Change the paragraph to the Header 1 styling.
Unordered list - Change the paragraph to a bulleted list.
H2 - Change the paragraph to the Header 2 styling.
Ordered list - Change the paragraph to a numbered list.
Composer Search Screen

Search - Composer search looks for words or phrases in the headline and body fields of all articles. You may also toggle to the ID search, which lets you input the alphanumeric Arc ID of the content you’re looking for. For more detailed information about Composer Search, see How to Use Composer Search.
Create a New Story - Click here to create a new article in Composer.
Username - Log out of your Arc account here. If you have a multi-site organization, you can set your preferred primary and secondary websites here.
Story Card - View a list view of all the articles your team has created or imported into Composer. Within this view, you can see the Headline, Workflow Status, Last Modified, Publish Status, Author, and Source. Depending on your organization’s configurations, you may also be able to see the Slug and the Budget Line information here.
Reset Filters - Click here to remove any existing filters you have in place and start your content search from scratch. If you ever have difficulties finding content in Composer, as a first step we recommend you reset filters and restart your search.
Sort by - Use the Sort By drop-down menu to reorder the story cards by Created Date, Last Updated Date, Publish Date or Display Date.
Websites and Sections - Limit your search to specific sections of your site.
Time Filters - Used in conjunction with Start Time and End Time, these options let you filter the results by Created, Published, or Last Modified.
Start Time and End Time - Set date parameters for your search either through the calendar view or through presets like today.
Author - Search for articles from a specific author. This field auto-completes with names from Author Service.
Headline - Limit your search to the Headline field only. If you have an exact word or phrase from the headline of the article, this search is often superior to a general search from the primary search field.
Source - Search by only where the article originated, such as wire feeds.
Subtype - Search based on any of the article subtypes you established within your organization (like opinions, sponsored, etc.)
Published - Restrict your search to only published content.
Publication Status, Save, and Workflow Status Bar

Story name and Last published date - Indicates when the article was last published to your site.
Actions - Take action on your story, like clone, send to print, unpublish, and more.
Go to live story - Navigate to the published version of your story on your website.
Unpublish - Remove the article from the site. Unpublishing does not delete the article from Composer.
Workflow status - Set or change the current workflow status of this article.
Save - Save the article within Composer. Saving does not publish a new version of the story. Optionally, click the drop-down arrow and choose Save and exit to save the story and return to the Composer search screen.
Update - Update the live version of the story on the website. If the article has not been published yet, the Publish button appears in this spot.
Compose Tab Navigation

Undo and Redo - Undo or redo the last action you took in the story.
Heading style - Change text to a H1 through H6.
Bold - Apply bold formatting to selected text.
Italics - Apply italics formatting to selected text.
Underline - Apply underline formatting to selected text.
More formatting - Choose from additional formatting options, like strike-through, code, drop cops, and underline color.
Unordered list - Created a bulleted list.
Ordered list - Create a numbered list.
Alignment - Align text left, right, or center.
ProLexis spell checker - If you have a ProLexis spell checker integration, use the spell checker. See Configuring ProLexis as your proofreader integration.
Link - Insert a hyperlink on the selected text.
Special characters - Insert special characters.
Insert content - Insert additional content elements, like galleries, quotes, social URLs, and other integrations you configured.
Work mode - Select the mode you want to work on: Editing, Suggesting, or View Only.
Inline Content Element Selector
When you create a new line in the body of the story, you see a small icon of all available content elements. This inline content selector is customizable.
