Composer editor options

This article explains the navigation bars and options available in Composer. Note that some elements are configurable per your organization’s needs and workflow; therefore, they may not appear exactly the same in your instance of Composer.

Primary actions bar

  • headline - view the name of the article.

  • last save date and time - view the most recent save date and time. 

  • Actions - choose from a list of actions to perform in the story: 

    • Clone - create a copy of the story

    • Add to clipboard - add the selected content element to the clipboard

    • Configure channels - open the Configure channels window where you can choose which channels the story goes to

    • Revision history - view of list of changes made to the story

    • Send to Print - print the story

    • Delete -  delete the story

  • Preview story - preview a published version of the story based on your settings

  • WebSked options - choose from a list of the following options: 

    • Add to Collection - add this story to an existing collection

    • Create task - create a WebSked task from this story 

    • Pitch to platform - create a platform pitch

    • Pitch to publication - create a publication pitch 

    • Open in WebSked - open this story in WebSked

    • View collections - view the available collections

    • View pitches - view current pitches

    • View tasks - view current tasks 

  • Status note - enter a note to reflect the current status of the story. The notes you enter here are visible to other users. 

  • Save - save any changes you made to the story

  • Publish - publish the story to your website 

  • Update - Update the live version of the story on the website. If the article has not been published yet, the Publish button appears in this spot.

  • Unpublish - Remove the article from the site. Unpublishing does not delete the article from Composer.

Text formatting options

  • Undo - undo the last change you made

  • Redo - redo the last change you made

  • Text styles - apply a test style to your content, like a heading level or paragraph formatting

  • Bold - apply a bold style to your selected content

  • Italic - apply an italic style to your selected content

  • Underline - apply an underline to your selected content

  • More formatting - choose from additional formatting options:

    • Strikethrough - apply strikethrough formatting to your selected text

    • Code - apply a code style to your selected text

    • Dropcaps - apply a dropcaps style to your selected text

    • Underline color - define the underline color

  • Bullet list - apply a bulleted list to your text

  • Numbered list - apply a numbered list to your text

  • Float - define the text alignment: left, center, or right. 

  • Add link - add a hyperlink to your text

  • Special characters - insert a non-alphanumeric character

  • Insert content - insert additional content blocks, like video, HTML blocks, and so on

  • Mode menu - switch between editing, suggesting, and read-only modes

    • Editing - in this mode, you can make any edits to the story

    • Suggesting - in this mode, any edits you make appear as suggestions for another user to approve or reject

    • Read Only - in this mode, you can only review the document without making changes 

Inline content element selector

When you create a new line in the body of the story, you see a small icon of all available content elements. This inline content selector is customizable, but generally you can add videos, images, HTML blocks, quotes, and so on.
