Video Center text search
This article explains some of the Video Center search functionality so that you can fully utilize the Video Center search to more easily find the video you're looking for.
The search bar on the /vodxsearch page of Video Center looks for matches in the video metadata sections of the Title, Blurb, Tags, Keywords, and UUID.
Tag, keyword, and UUID search
For Video Center to return a video as a Tag, Keyword, or UUID match, you must enter an exact match into the search field. For example, if the keyword or tag is news123
, and you search for news12
, then Video Center returns none of the videos with the tag news123
. If you enter a valid UUID into the search field, then you receive either one or no results.
Title and blurb search
Title and blurb search return any video that has any matching words. For example, if you search for puppies learning to swim
, then the videos that Video Center returns include videos with only the word learning
in the title or blurb, even if these videos have nothing to do with puppies.
Using double quotes in the search field
If you want to require the search resuts to include a specific word or phrase that matches exactly, you must use double quotes around that word or phrase. For example, if you search for puppies learning to swim
, you may receive unwanted results, such as a video titled learning to play the stock market
or even a video with the word learning
in the Blurb field (which you can see from only the VOD edit page). You can remove both of these results by adding quotes around the word puppies, "puppies" learning to swim
. If you know the exact title, you can also search "puppies learning to swim"
.
Searches can include as many quoted words or phrases as you want. For example:
"puppies" learning to "swim"
excludes any results that don't include both puppies
and swim
"puppies learning" to swim
excludes any results that don't include the exact phrase puppies learning
. Therefore, a video with a title like puppies are learning to swim
would not be returned.
"puppies" "learning" "to" "swim"
include videos titled both puppies are learning to swim
and puppies learning to swim
.
Additionally, any punctuation, numbers, or symbols inside of double quotes must match exactly.
