Share Previews of Stories Externally?
Question
Is it possible to generate a story preview link that can be shared with users that are not within our organization, for example, with those who do not have Arc XP logins?
Answer
Yes, this is possible; however, the solution involves risks that you must understand before implementing.
One known risk when you use your public domain is that content is subject to standard CDN caching behavior. Although articles are automatically cache-cleared upon publishing, this process has some limitations:
Cache clearing applies only to known URLs where the story is published.
The
/preview-arc
path, while it allows for previewing the story, is not considered a published URL and is therefore not included in the cache-clearing process. This path is subject to the standard time-to-live (TTL) settings.
Note that even standard cache-clearing is not instantaneous. It make take anywhere from a few seconds to a minute, depending on several factors. As a result, clicking Publish does not immediately reflect changes on cached URLs, even for published story URLs. To learn more about caching on Arc XP, see Caching at Arc XP.
