Google's Core Web Vitals change: INP replacing FID
On March 12, 2024, Google introduced a change to Core Web Vitals that may impact your sites' SEO rankings. This article describes Arc XP's assessment of the change and how to take action within Arc XP. But for full details on the change, see Google's announcement, Introducing INP to Core Web Vitals.
Introducing Google's Interaction to Next paint (INP) metric
As of March 12, 2024, Google is replacing First Input Delay (FID) with a new Core Web Vitals metric: Interaction to Next Paint (INP).
Previously, the following three metrics were considered the top metrics:
Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)
First Input Delay (FID)
Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)
Now, with the introduction of INP, FID is no longer considered a top-three metric. Both FID and INP measure interactivity and responsiveness of the interactive elements on your page; however, FID is now considered a legacy method. INP is a more accurate and better measure of user interactivity on a page.
